Invisalign Dos and Don’ts

Invisalign aligners are a convenient and popular way to achieve your dream smile, but there are some important things you will have to do (and don't) to get the best possible results.

Do remove your aligners when you eat

There is no limit on what you can eat during Invisalign treatment, but keep in mind to brush and floss your teeth before putting your aligners back on.

Do wear your aligners for 22 hours per day

Invisalign will only work if you wear your aligners correctly. It is important to wear your aligners for 20-22 hours per day. Only removing them to eat, brush and floss.

Do clean your aligners daily

Plaque and bacteria will accumulate on your aligners as your wear them, and you'll need to clean them. Gently brush your aligners with a soft-bristled toothbrush and rinse them with luke warm water in the morning and before bed. You should also rinse them before putting them back into your mouth after eating.

Do store your aligners in your Invisalign case

Always remember to carry your Invisalign aligner case with you. Invisalign aligners are completely clear and can easily be thrown away on accident. Plus, pets have been known to chew and damage them.

Don't eat or drink hot food or beverages

Because Invisalign is made of plastic, it will melt under high temperatures. Make sure that you take out your aligners before drinking hot coffee.

Don't forget to plan ahead while traveling

If you are leaving for a vacation away from home, make sure to pack your new aligners. Keep track of when you need to change into your new aligners and make sure to be prepared.

Don't drink colored drinks

Sugary and colored drinks can stain your aligners, and your teeth too! This defeats the purpose of your virtually invisable treatment!

Don't use harsh cleaners on your aligners

Make sure to avoid using substances with strong colors or scents. This will include both soaps and toothpate, which may leave some residue on your Invisalign trays and result in discoloration.
